Night Walk by Franz Wright
The all-night convenience store’s empty and no one is behind the counter. You open and shut the glass door a few times causing a bell to go off, but no one appears. You only came to buy a pack of cigarettes, maybe a copy of yesterday’s newspaper — finally you take one and leave thirty-five cents in its place. It is freezing, but it is a good thing to step outside again: you...

a poem, published? yes! →
I am starting to submit poems. elimae, a lit mag, said YES to one. Holy moly! It took me awhile. It’s hard to submit things when you are writing. Are there submitting times and writing times? I guess so. I am pumped.

poems poems poems.  I knew my life would be like this, a poem sucker. I’d even say, a poem slurper. It’s hard for me to post a poem now. I feel the need to hide them? Am I the poem slurper?

I am a Fellow!
Oh, what added happiness, oh, what added busyness.  The Americorps Massachusetts Promise Fellowship committee contacted me, and I’m in. I’ll be working at 826 Boston for this year, as the Volunteer and In-School Program Coordinator.  Volunteering with kids, reading to them, writing with them, has been part of my life since…I have no idea. Girl Scouts? I was in Girl Scouts for...

engagement land: arrived.
and, after all the poetry residency hoopla/writing a pantoum/off to writing more poetry in forms: i am engaged. WHOA. I’m excited and, also overwhelmed. I’ve been reading a lot of wedding related websites, including offbeatbride.com. and of course, theknot. Apparently, this is considered a very stressful situation. I mean, the “being engaged” part: planning a wedding....

getting things done & weddings
I am going to three weddings this summer. 1. in Cape Cod 2. in Jamaica 3. in Chicago Besides all that, I have been organizing poems for a manuscript, for Lesley. We had more guests this weekend.Jake’s friend from California and his GF. Walked from Somerville to Boston, ate and drank things on the way.  I made chocolate-mint iced tea with the mint growing in my backyard. I keep forming...

tuesday wrist
The cafe is getting busier and busier. This is prime time. Soon, Harvard will have commencement and it will be insane! I’ve asked for four days a week instead of five, because I stopped taking care of myself (i.e. showers, laundry, dinner, etc…worse than USUAL, believe me). But, that hasn’t happened yet. Another cool thing about my new and improved schedule is: two days...

Grief
I saw you last night in the back of my eyes, and you just said hello. Like a videotape, stuck on repeat. Hello, hello, hello.

where are the tums?
Currently, I am in bed with 9:30pm pizza heartburn. Volunteering on Monday nights is fun, but the end-of-the-night pizza session really kills me. And, this pizza is greasy, you know, the delicious kind. The kids I work with are amazing. They are serious and dedicated to their work. I’m considered a mentor, but sometimes I feel like they inspire me more than I inspire them.  I work with...

the cafe experience
Last night, I went to a house-concert in Inman Square. What’s even more great about THAT was that I was invited by a customer who comes into the cafe regularly, and the music was awesome! Check out David Wax Museum. They are country-sounding/Mexican inspired rock music. I had some random connections with the lead singer (we know some of the same people, including one of my best...

brisk spring walk
Today was a leftovers day. Since Jake has been working on a paper, I baked/cooked all three meals for fun yesterday, thus leaving us with plenty of food for today, too. It was very housewifey of me, which was fun and I enjoy it for the most part…but man, I was exhausted by 10pm on a Saturday night.  REPEAT: 1. sweet potato frittata was had for breakfast AGAIN. 2. warm lentil salad was...

works in a shop, she never stops, she's a...
I bought a candle the other day for our living room. It is green and smells like “litsea and lemongrass” which is supposed to be uplifting. I didn’t know what litsea was, but apparently it is an evergeen or shrub, and the leaves smell like lemon. I think it smells like a lemon meringue pie — which is just as uplifting! I made a delicious frittata today for brunch (for...

refresh is out of commission
I am not sure what I’m doing, in my general life and right at this moment. I do know that my blog on blogger is consistently spammed. And, I don’t like it.  Time to start something new! Maybe there will be more photos! Maybe there will be more poems! Today, I realized how much caffeine really is a drug. It is something I learned because I work in a coffee shop, and today I drank...
